When I arrived in Houston, Texas (layover) for the summer vacation, I was very excited to write more about rules and etiquette at an airport that some behaviors are both not age-appropriate and not acceptable that contributes to weird thoughts.
I had a weird thought that a passenger picks an ear and wipe it onto a lounge seat. EWW! Don’t!
Here are the reasons why people prefer layovers; others don’t like layovers, and I will write “hidden curriculum” at the airport, regardless their behavior.
Sometimes, you may experience some boring layovers, and that’s okay! Some travelers and tourists have done it, so don’t worry, you can do the following while you can do during your layover. (I love two layovers).
Sometimes, it’s unavoidable, and you will have to deal with it.
Here are some choices while you wait during your layover:
- Try to browsing around in the airport such as shops, restaurant, or outlet that you like to look at
- Read a book
- Take a short nap; I recommended that I should be waking up about 15 minutes before boarding time; 45 minutes before boarding for international flights (do not lay down on lounge seats)
- Play with a phone
- Do brain puzzle
- Drink water
- Eat a meal or snack
- Study in general
- Take a walk
- Draw a picture
- People watch
- Write something fun
- Go to Airline Club*
*I was an old United Mileage Plus member with the same alliance – Continental. Only if you are an airline member (purchased a club pass) will allow going to an Airline Club
I literally did not went to the Club – only 2.5 hours layover so I let it go even through I purchase a club pass! Sad face!
Make sure you need to check the flight status often as sometimes the boarding gates can be changed.
If your layover is over 8 hours, you can allow leaving from the airport to explore the layover city, but you must be back at the airport at least 2 to 3 hours before to check-in before your schedule to board the flight.
**If you do leave the airport, please don’t travel far from 1-2 miles radius from the airport because you will miss your check-in time. Don’t take public Transportation farther than 2 miles (sometimes, public transportation is late).**
WARNING! NEVER, EVER shout or say any illegal words or comments as you may permanently eject from the airport, fines, prison time and even community service.
Don’t be having too much fun at the airport. Please, don’t act like childish behavior because other people will have weird thoughts. Bad impression.
Illegal words or comments*:
- Bombs
- Fire
- Terrorists
- I have a bomb in my shirt
- There is a fire in …
- Hijack time in my …
*Illegal words or comments – words or phrases that are deemed illegal/unlawful to say in specific locations (e.g., “I am a bomber” at security checkpoint)
