Insights from a Neurodivergent Travel Diary

Welcome to the Neurodivergent Travel Diary. Here, I share real experiences and practical tips for neurodivergent travelers. In early May, I traveled to Washington, D.C. for the Passport DC event with my parents, younger brother, and friends. As a neurodivergent person who often travels alone, I ran into some special challenges that showed me how important it is to have more awareness and support for people like us.

In this diary, I’ll give a detailed look at my travels, including what it’s like to travel with family members who might not always understand neurodivergent needs, like my emotionally reactive father. I’ll talk about the challenges neurodivergent people face on the road, such as sensory issues, trouble with emotional management, and the stress of new places. I’ll also share coping tips, resources, and tools to help neurodivergent travelers feel more confident and enjoy their trips.

By sharing these experiences, I want to help others understand the different ways people experience the world and encourage the creation of more inclusive travel spaces. Supporting neurodivergent travelers means being understanding, patient, and offering practical help so everyone can explore the world in their own way.
